Packing is an art. And I’ve mastered it. I’m not a competitive person but I like to brag about what I can fit in my carry-on. Because I have limited space, what I bring is essential and I try not to overpack. Though my requirements are stringent, there are several items I don’t leave home without. Here are the travel accessories that make it in my luggage.
I do my best to avoid buying bottled water even when traveling. Most airports and hotels have refill stations and I’m not opposed to tap water unless it is deemed unsafe. I take my collapsible water bottle which can be shoved in any backpack or luggage pocket.
I’ve tried everything from rolling my clothes to stuffing vacuum sealed bags but using packing cubes is the most organized and space saving method for me. They really make a difference during a multi-city trip when I am frequently unpacking and repacking.
If I am going camping (which doesn’t happen often), to the beach or the pool, I like to bring my quick dry travel towel. I dry off and roll my bathing suit inside the towel then put it back in the mesh bag.
I take a travel first aid kit when we go hiking or camping. We have yet to use it but I imagine when I don’t pack it will be the time we need it the most. Better safe than bleeding profusely in the woods while attracting wild animals.
My flexible tripod comes in handy when there aren’t others around to take a photo of me (or us) or the shutter speed is so slow that even the slightest movement will ruin the photo. I can attach it to just about anything.
I try to limit my cell phone use on vacation but taking phones and using Google Maps drains my battery faster than I would like. My portable charger can power my cell phone, tablet, and camera at the same time if needed.
Charging my gadgets is a must and with this travel adapter I can charge two devices at a time. Since it’s purple, it doesn’t blend into most hotel room walls and I am less likely to forget it.
Most hotel rooms and even Airbnb accommodations have docking stations…for iPhones. Unfortunately (and fortunately) the world does not revolve around Apple. I take my wireless bluetooth speaker to listen to some music on vacation.
Taking photos with my phone is convenient but I can’t always get the shot that I want. My mirrorless camera is small, light and can fit into my backpack or suitcase.
